Well we have been on the roller coaster of anticipation leading up to one of the biggest UFC events of the year. UFC 189 will host two title fights including the rematch between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald, and the interim title fight between Chad Mendes and Conor McGregor. While we have been waiting a long time to see the Irish contender fight the long time champion Jose Aldo, a fight with the #1 featherweight seems more appropriate to me anyways. A couple things to note on this DraftKings game is that you still have the option to choose Jose Aldo for your lineup, however he will earn no points. There are 11 fights consisting of 2 title fights which will go 5 rounds. Something to always consider is a fighters ability to finish the fight and earn big points. Typically you will find a higher price tag on the finishers but there are a lot of options for this event. Below I will show you fighters to consider for your UFC 189 DraftKings lineups and why. Choose your lineup now!
Conor McGregor ($10,100)
I am glad to see McGregor fight Mendes for the interim title shot. I just didn’t think a victory over the #10 Dennis Siver really earned him a title shot in the stacked featherweight division. I have wanted to see this fight and I believe it is fair to both fighters. I think Mendes will pose a lot of problems for McGregor and the fight will be interesting. However, something to consider is Conor McGregors 94% finish rate. This is huge in Fantasy MMA when you want to score big points.
Robbie Lawler ($9,100)
Okay this is another hard call because I am a huge fan of Rory MacDonald and believe he has what it takes to be champion. However when you consider the fact that Robbie Lawler has already beaten MacDonald by decision and costs less for your lineup, it is a pretty attractive pick. If you think Lawler can win again then he is an excellent lineup choice.
Thomas Almeida ($11,200)
I typically look at lighter weight class fighters last when choosing my lineups because they often have a lower finish rate. However Almeida is 18-0 and has only been to decision once at 135 lbs. He has many wins by KO and TKO, a lot of them take place in the first round. I believe once Thomas Almeida steps into the cage with Brad “One Punch” Pickett its on. Something to consider is that Thomas Almeida is the most expensive fighter on the roster.
Tim Means ($8,900)
So the dirty bird has been looking more and more impressive lately. He has had a couple finish this year and is always improving. He will be taking on Matt Brown who is coming off two losses, both of them being to current or past UFC champions. I think Means stands a good chance against The Immortal and could pull off a victory. If you are looking for a low cost fighter to complete your lineup, Tim Means is a great choice.
Alex Garcia ($10,900)
I haven’t personally been a huge fan of Alex Garcia but I believe his match up agains Mike Swick is a good one. I just don’t think Mike “Quick” Swick has what it takes to hang with Garcia who is training out of Tristar in Canada. I think this fight is going to end in with a finish and I believe Garcio has what it takes.
Cody Garbrandt ($11,000)
Here is another great bantamweight finisher in Cody Garbrandt. He is currently 6-0 with all wins coming by KO/TKO. The 24 year old has only had one UFC fight but I believe he will do very well in his next fight with Henry Briones. Yes he does have a higher cost but is heavily favored to win this bout.
