We haven’t seen Nick Diaz in the Octagon since his loss to Georges St. Pierre in an attempt to take his title.
After his loss in UFC 158 Nick told Joe Rogan, “I think I’m going to have to figure out whether I want to keep doing this. To be honest, I don’t really think I got any more. I don’t want to make excuses. I think I’m done with mixed martial arts. I’m tired of getting banged up like this.” And it felt as though we were never going to see the Cardio Monster Nick Diaz again.
On July 7th, it seems as though Nick Diaz spoke to soon.
UFC president Dana White has stated Diaz contacted him in search of a fight. “He said (he) broke up with his girlfriend, wants to fight, ‘Dana, get me a fight.’ Nick Diaz is under contract with the UFC. Whenever Nick Diaz wants a fight, I’d be more than happy to get him a fight.”
Nick Diaz’s Manager and Trainer Cesar Gracie told BJ Penn Radio:
As far as his fighting and everything. He’s been in Vegas, he just got back a couple of days ago. There is an offer on the table, that’s all I can say. It’s something everyone is looking at right now and discussing with him. Dana has offered him a fight. There is an offer on the table, I can’t say who it is, but it’s kind of neat I think. But no decisions have been made for sure.
Diaz is currently ranked 6th in the Welterweight division. Diaz is still a vicious competitor with his record of 26-9-0-1 and being a Strikeforce champion has really given Diaz a lot of experience.
By now we have learned that nothing is set in stone with Diaz and he follows his own rules and pretty much does what he wants. So even with the current talk, there is always the chance that we won’t see him fight again. However, keep your fingers crossed because I know we all would like to see a comeback and see what kind of changes to his game Diaz will make.
