UFC Fight Night 82 DraftKings: Hendricks vs Thompson Picks

Well this fight card has gotten beat up so bad it lost the main event. We were supposed to see a rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight belt. This would tell us if Cain really lost because of the altitude, or he just got beaten by the better man. However Velasquez pulled out to an injury and Fabricio Werdum followed suit shortly after. Even though Stipe Miocic stepped up to save the event, the new champ decided to mind his injuries and give Cain a chance when they’re both healed. The card will no longer be called UFC 196 and instead be called UFC Fight Night 82: Hendricks vs Thompson. The card may not have been PPV worthy but there are still some exciting fights in store for fans. Many people are excited to see if Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks can make a comeback and work towards the title. While Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will look to face the toughest opponent of his career. Another fight I am excited for is Roy “Big Country” Nelson vs Jared Rosholt, two of my favorite heavyweights. Also if you haven’t gotten your OSP fix, Ovince Saint Preux will face Rafael Cavalcante in an exciting light heavyweight bout. We will also see Mickey Gall face Mike Jackson in a fight that could determine CM Punk’s first UFC opponent. This is a fight between someone with 1 pro fight, and the other with zero pro MMA fights, don’t expect a whole lot. ufc fight night 82 draftkingsStephen “Wonderboy” Thompson ($9,000)

I was very excited to see this matchup when it was announced. Stephen Thompson is one of the most entertaining Welterweights to watch and will get an excellent challenge in the former champion. I haven’t really been impressed with Johny Hendricks ever since he became the champion. Hendricks is coming off a decision victory against Matt Brown, the only person to defeat Stephen Thompson in his professional career. I believe Wonderboy steps up to the plate and will earn a victory that should push him towards the title.

Roy “Big Country” Nelson ($10,200)

Roy Nelson is one of the most popular heavyweights and for plenty of good reason. Nelson is currently on a 3 fight losing streak and will look to comeback with a win. I believe Roy Nelson can knock out anyone in the UFC, he really just need to right chance at the right moment. Jared Rosholt won 3 fights in 2015 and will be looking to continue his win streak. I believe Nelson will be able to turn the lights of for Rosholt, hopefully sooner than later.

Ovince “OSP” St. Preux ($10,700)

OSP is a monster in the light heavyweight division finishing some pretty tough fighters. The number 6 light heavyweight will take on number 13 in Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. I haven’t been impressed with Cavalcante in his last few UFC fights, and I don’t think he is going to be bringing anything impressive to the fight. OSP is a little bit taller and has a 7 inch reach advantage which could be huge for him. OSP is one of the more costly fighters on the roster but I believe he will show up to impress.

Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis ($9,700)

Derrick Lewis will face Damian Grabowski, and M-1 star in a heavyweight bout. Both of these guys are heavy hitters with impressive records. Each fighters has a salary of $9,700 meaning you could really go either way with the pick. I’m thinking this fight will end by KO/TKO and I am going with the guy who has already done that in the UFC.

Mike “The Truth” Jackson ($8,500)

Here is yet another interesting fight between two UFC newcomers. Mike “The Truth” Jackson will face the guy who could potentially be CM Punk’s first opponent in Mickey Gall. If Gall wins he will go on to fight CM Punk in his UFC debut. However the same circumstance hasn’t been created for Jackson with a win. Mike does photo and video work for Legacy FC and has experience with boxing and kickboxing. I believe Jackson is going to be the better striker in the matchup and could finish the fight.
