After a successful event in Virginia, the UFC will now head over to Krakow, Poland for another fight night event:
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Mirko Filipovic
This is probably one of the larger rematches in the UFC to take place this year in terms of marquee value.
Gabriel Gonzaga made his name off of defeating Mirko ‘Cro Cop” Filipovic eight years ago at UFC 70 by head kick, Cro Cop’s signature move as a kickboxer. Since then though, Gonzaga fought for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, went on win and loosing streaks, was cut from the UFC and is now back but on a two fight loosing streak.
Cro Cop on the other hand is coming back to the UFC for his third time around. His last tenure was supposed to be his last but a K-1 Grand Prix Championship and a 3-1 MMA record since then have prompted the UFC to give him another chance.
Jimi Manuwa vs. Jan Blachowicz
The co-main event of UFC Fight Night 64 features two local fighters aimed towards the European audience.
Jimi Manuwa is an British fighter who until recently was undefeated. His lone loss belongs to Alexander Gustafsson and before that he was a six time defending UCMMA Light Heavyweight Champion.
Jan Blachowicz on the other hand has fought almost exclusively in the Polish promotion KSW where he is the promotion’s current Light Heavyweight Champion. He also won the 07, 08 and 10 Light Heavyweight Tournaments.
Pawel Pawlak vs. Sheldon Wescott
Pawal Pawlak is another local fighter on the card whereas Sheldon Wescott is a TUF participant in the UFC.
Joanne Calderwood vs. Maryna Moroz
This is a fight that could very well determine the next title challenger in the women’s strawweight division.
Joanne Calderwood was ranked number two in The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned before she was defeated in the second round by Rose Namajunas. However at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale, Calderwood rebounded with a win against Seohee Ham and with Carla Esparza‘s title loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Calderwood maybe next in line for a title shot against the new champion.
Maryna Moroz is a Ukrainian fighter currently undefeated and making her UFC debut. A win over Calderwood could certainly make a statement in the strawweight division.
