Nick Diaz May Return To Fight Lyoto Machida at Middleweight

Nick Diaz has been popping up every now and then since he claimed to retire after losing to the Champ, Georges St Pierre. Diaz wanted a rematch for the belt, but it wasn’t offered. Apparently Dana White is trying to use past UFC Champion Lyoto Machida to lure Diaz out in a Middleweight fight. While this isn’t the weight class they typically fight in, Machida would move down a class, and Diaz would move up.

nick diaz vs lyoto machida dana whiteLyoto Machida has been talking about dropping down from Light Heavyweight, which we don’t think is a bad idea. The Dragon has always been a smaller Light Heavyweight, but has kept up with some of the best in the world. After watching his fight against Jon Jones and his ability to strike against the much taller fighter proves Machida has some serious skills. Machida will be a phenom at 18 pounds.

“I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we’ll see what happens” “He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185.”

Machida was set to fight Vitor Belfort during at UFC 167 in November, but apparently Dana White has some communication problems with Vitor.

“I wanted Machida to fight Vitor Belfort, but Vitor Belfort is his own matchmaker, apparently, he wants to make his own fights.”

Machida is coming off a loss to the much larger Phil Davis in a decision after 3 rounds. We believe the drop to 185 will show a whole new side of Machida. The jump from 170 to 185 for Diaz seems a little strange because he isn’t an extremely large welterweight. This will guarantee he will be one of the smaller Middleweights. Hopefully we can see this bout take place during UFC 167 Georges St Pierre vs Johny Hendricks.

We haven’t heard confirmation from Nick Diaz or his camp but we are excited to find out of he takes the match up. Diaz has always been a great fighter and a great entertainer and it would be nice to have him around the fight world for a few more years.
